DRUM CIRCLES FOR MEMORY CARE RESIDENTS

It has been said, “Music is one of the last things to go”.  This is quite true! Countless times, we have seen residents with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease respond to music positively.  They often know and sing to songs, and have a childlike enthusiasm to play music!  In this program, we engage residents in singing along with songs, rhythmic activities where they create their own rhythms over a steady beat, dancing with residents who are physically able to move around, and visual follow-the-leader exercises using sticks and shakers.  We also provide different kinds of instruments that depend on the residents’ inhibitions.  Music is a great healer, and we see the amazing affects it has on memory care residents!
